I am Kelley Spahr. I have been an elementary teacher for 26 years and recently completed my EdD in Curriculum and now teach at the College of Charleston (Go Cougs!)

I currently split my time between my home and family in central North Carolina and the beautiful city of Charleston, South Carolina. I have an amazing husband, two rescue German Shepherds (Dane and Junie B), and a cat Jack-Jack. I enjoy baseball games and running.
I have worked in public schools and private schools. I have worked in high-poverty schools, as well as those not deemed high-poverty. I have taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th grades and served as a literacy coach, instructional coach, and curriculum support. I have had the privilege of mentoring new teachers and delivering professional development to a wide-range of teachers.
I love talking about building relationships and establishing classroom culture. I am immersed in all things Science of Reading (and I teach the intro course on language and literacy development to undergrads and grad students). I also focus on inquiry-based teaching and incorporating critical thinking and problem solving into science instruction.
Mostly though I love this profession - even when it feels so HARD! Together, we can create a community that enlightens, inspires, supports, and teaches. Join me in sharing our experiences and re-igniting our JOY!
Kelley
